In the European Humanist Forum that took place in Madrid on 11, 12 and 13 May, one of the working areas was promoted by the Association of Humanist Women for Nonviolence. These two questions laid the groundwork for the roundtable discussion A New Economy for the Universal Human Nation at the Humanist Forum 2018. Different representatives of new trends in the sector participated in this meeting to present their proposals for transformation. What common elements do people from different cultures have? In essence, we are human beings with the same needs and abilities. We have principles, projects and beliefs. A heart that loves and suffers. A mind that thinks, knows and communicates. A body that looks, hugs and walks forward. That relates to others. Over 500 people came to the opening session of EHF2018, with people overflowing into three extra rooms after having filled the auditorium at the UNED Faculty of Education Sciences.
The atmosphere was joyful in this latest gathering of the European Humanist Forum, the last one being in Milan in 2008.
On the 11th of May, the opening session of the 5th European Humanist Forum took place. It was held in the UNED Faculty of Education Sciences in the presence of people and organisations from 40 countries, mostly Europeans, but also Asians, Africans and Americans. (more…)
On Saturday the 12th of May, parliamentarians from Spain, France, Chile and Argentina signed ICAN’s Parliamentary pledge in support of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. ICAN won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to create the treaty. (more…)
Dear friends, we have met here in Madrid on the 11th, 12th and 13th of May 2018 in a time of extreme concern, both for the social situation in which violence increases and life becomes more difficult every day, and for the internal situation of human beings. The lack of meaning and lack of faith that it’s possible to change things leads to despair, intolerance, nihilism, inner violence and suicide in many cases.
But in front of this situation, in this Forum, we’ve been able to see that another reality is being built in parallel and is hidden in the “official” discourse. We’ve seen examples of this Universal Human Nation, that isn’t only in the future but rather is becoming a reality today and is something that we’ve been able to experience in these days. (more…)
